Slovenia 2026 - Parliamentary Inquiry Act
This is the only binding vote of the day. Parliament passed amendments to the Parliamentary Inquiry Act on 26 May 2026. They are not in force yet. A yes vote supports the amendments. A no vote is against the law. The law is rejected only if no wins a majority of valid votes and at least 339,706 people vote no, one fifth of all voters. If that bar is not met, the law can enter into force. If it is rejected, parliament may not pass a law to the same effect for at least one year. Today a wide group, including the person under inquiry, can ask the Constitutional Court to review the opening of an inquiry. Under the amendments, only the Judicial Council and the state prosecutor general could ask. The person under inquiry could go to court only within eight days after a final report, and many inquiries never produce one. A court challenge used to pause the inquiry. In September 2026 the Constitutional Court ended that pause. Supporters say the old rules let people delay inquiries. Opponents say people lose a way to challenge an inquiry before it starts.
