Everything you need to know about using Porto Voto: the terms that govern the service, how we collect and protect your data, which cookies we use, and what counts as fair use when you vote or participate in events.

Voting here is simulated — results reflect community sentiment, not certified official outcomes. You can export or delete your data, manage cookie preferences, and withdraw consent at any time.

Terms of Service

By accessing or using Porto Voto (the “Service”), you agree to these Terms. If you do not agree, do not use the Service.

Porto Voto is a platform for casting simulated votes on public events. All results represent community sentiment and are not official electoral outcomes unless an event is expressly run by a recognized public authority and clearly labeled as such.

You agree to use one account, to vote honestly, and not to attempt to manipulate results through automation, multiple accounts, or coordinated inauthentic behaviour.

We may update the Service and these Terms. Material changes are reflected by updating this page and the “Last updated” date. Continued use after changes constitutes acceptance of the updated Terms.

You must comply with applicable laws. You are responsible for your conduct, your account credentials (if any), and any activity under your account.

Disclaimers

Not an official election. Porto Voto provides tools for simulated voting, discussion of public questions, and exploratory results. Unless clearly labeled otherwise, results are not certified official outcomes and must not be represented as binding electoral results.

No professional advice. Nothing on the Service is legal, financial, or electoral advice.

Availability. We aim for reliable operation but do not guarantee uninterrupted or error-free access. Tallies and displays may be delayed or corrected to address fraud, abuse, or technical faults.

Accounts & security

Voting and many features require an account. You agree to provide accurate information and to keep your credentials confidential. If you suspect unauthorized access, review your account settings and sign out of other sessions.

We may suspend or terminate accounts that violate these Terms, risk the Service or other users, or where required by law.

Acceptable use

You agree not to:

  • Harass, threaten, or discriminate against others; post unlawful, defamatory, or hateful content.
  • Attempt to compromise the Service, other accounts, or supporting infrastructure.
  • Automate abuse: scripts or coordinated inauthentic behaviour intended to distort votes, spam events, or evade limits.
  • Misrepresent your identity or affiliation in a way that is likely to deceive others.
  • Use the Service in violation of export controls, sanctions, or other applicable regulations.

Privacy

We collect the minimum data needed to run the Service: for example, your email address, an automatically generated username (which you can change), your votes, and technical information needed for security and reliability.

We may keep a limited history of changes to your display name and profile link while your account is active, to help prevent abuse, resolve disputes, and enforce these terms. You can see this history in your data export; it is removed when you delete your account.

We never store your raw IP address; we keep only a salted hash used to prevent abuse. From social logins we request only your email address. We do not sell your personal information. We may use processors (such as hosting, email, or security providers) under agreements that require appropriate safeguards.

Lawful bases (GDPR). We process personal data where necessary to perform our contract with you (providing the Service), where we have a legitimate interest (such as fraud prevention and platform security), and where you have given consent (for example, optional analytics and marketing email).

Depending on where you live, you may have rights to access, correct, delete, restrict, or port your personal data, and to object to or withdraw consent for certain processing. Signed-in users can export data, manage consent, or delete their account. You may also change optional cookie preferences at any time in the Cookies section below.

We retain data only as long as needed for the purposes above, unless a longer period is required by law or legitimate security needs. When you delete your account, we anonymize your profile and detach your votes from your identity while keeping aggregate tallies intact.

Cookies

We use cookies and similar technologies (including browser storage) as described below. Essential technologies are required for sign-in and security. Optional analytics load only if you accept them in our cookie banner.

Essential cookies

  • Session cookie (better-auth.session_token) — keeps you signed in. Duration: session or as configured by your browser. Provider: Porto Voto.
  • Cloudflare Turnstile — when you submit a vote, we may load Cloudflare Turnstile to reduce automated abuse. Turnstile may set short-lived cookies (such as cf_clearance) or use similar challenge state on your device. These are strictly necessary for security on protected actions. Provider: Cloudflare, Inc.

Preference storage

  • Consent preference (pv_analytics_consent in localStorage) — remembers whether you accepted or declined optional analytics. This is not a cookie but serves the same purpose for your choice. Duration: until you clear site data or change preferences.

Optional analytics

  • Cloudflare Web Analytics— if you choose “Accept all cookies”, we may load Cloudflare's privacy-oriented analytics beacon to understand how the Service is used. According to Cloudflare, Web Analytics does not use cookies or fingerprint visitors for analytics; it collects aggregated usage metrics. We still ask for your consent before enabling it. Provider: Cloudflare, Inc.

You can control non-essential analytics through our cookie banner or by using , which clears your saved choice and reopens the banner. You can also limit cookies through your browser settings; disabling essential cookies may prevent sign-in or voting.

For more about how we handle personal data, see Privacy above.

Content & feedback

You retain rights in content you submit, but you grant us a non-exclusive licence to host, display, and process it as needed to run the Service. You represent that you have the rights to grant this licence.

If you send us feedback or suggestions, you agree we may use them without obligation to you, except where prohibited by law.

Limitation of liability

To the maximum extent permitted by law, the Service is provided “as is” without warranties of any kind, whether express or implied. We are not liable for indirect, incidental, special, consequential, or punitive damages, or for any loss of profits, data, or goodwill, arising from your use of the Service.

Our total liability for any claim relating to the Service is limited to the greater of (a) the amount you paid us for the Service in the twelve months before the claim, or (b) zero if the Service is offered without charge.

Some jurisdictions do not allow certain limitations; in those cases, our liability is limited to the fullest extent permitted.

Changes

We may modify these Terms and policies. Material changes will be reflected by updating this page and the “Last updated” date. Your continued use of the Service after changes constitutes acceptance.

Contact

For privacy requests or questions about these Terms, signed-in users can use Privacy & data in their account. You can also send us a message on the contact page. Review our cookie preferences at any time.
