Should people convicted over Brazil’s 8 January 2023 attacks receive an amnesty or a pardon?

People were convicted over the attacks in Brazil on 8 January 2023. News reports describe those events as coup acts, and courts treated them as an attempted coup. Former president Jair Bolsonaro was sentenced to 27 years and 3 months for six crimes, among them an attempted coup. In August 2026 he was reported to be under house arrest. An amnesty is a law. Both houses of Congress must pass it, and the president then signs it or vetoes it. A pardon is different. It is a decree by the president, and it can apply to a group of convicted people. Flávio Bolsonaro, the PL candidate for president, is Jair Bolsonaro’s son. He has asked for a broad, unrestricted amnesty for people convicted over those attacks, and for his father’s release. He has said that if he is elected, and if Congress does not pass an amnesty, he will pardon everyone convicted over the attacks. This poll asks whether they should receive an amnesty or a pardon. It does not ask who should win the election.
