USANational Book Awards 2026
The National Book Awards give one prize in each of five categories: Fiction, Nonfiction, Poetry, Translated Literature, and Young People’s Literature. Judges chose five finalists in each category from 1,912 books submitted this year: 451 in Fiction, 727 in Nonfiction, 285 in Poetry, 159 in Translated Literature, and 290 in Young People’s Literature. The finalists were announced on 6 October 2026. Winners are announced live on Wednesday 18 November 2026 at 8:00 p.m. Eastern, at Cipriani Wall Street in New York, and on a livestream. Each winner receives $10,000, a bronze medal, and a statue. Each finalist receives $1,000 and a bronze medal. In Translated Literature the money is split evenly between the author and the translator. Rank the book you most want to win in each category. This is a preference ballot, not a prediction of the judges’ vote.
