Should the United States buy Russian diesel while the war in Ukraine continues?
On Friday 9 October 2026, President Donald Trump said he had agreed with President Vladimir Putin that Russia would supply diesel to the United States and to world markets. He said the aim was to ease high fuel prices before the United States midterm elections on 3 November. Trump said Russia would send more than 300,000 tonnes at once, 500,000 tonnes in November, and another 1 million tonnes after that. The deal was criticised in the United States and in Europe. President Volodymyr Zelenskyy said it would encourage Russian attacks on Ukraine. Britain’s defense secretary, Wes Streeting, said Britain does not support the deal. Kaja Kallas, the European Union’s foreign policy chief, said the European Union will keep its sanctions on Russia. Around the same days, attacks on energy sites were still being reported, and President Trump had pressed Ukraine to stop striking Russian refineries. This poll asks whether the United States should buy Russian diesel while the war in Ukraine continues.
