What political outcome should be pursued for Israel and Palestine?

The proposal most often backed at the United Nations is two states: Israel and a sovereign Palestine, side by side. In September 2026, during the General Assembly, Secretary-General António Guterres said that remains the only credible path: two democratic states on the pre-1967 borders, with Jerusalem as the capital of both. He warned that Israeli settlement expansion is erasing the conditions for a viable Palestinian state. Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas also called for two states. This poll also offers two other outcomes. One state with equal rights would mean a single country in which Israelis and Palestinians have the same political rights. Leaving the outcome to the parties would mean outside governments do not press for a particular map, and leave the final arrangement to Israelis and Palestinians.
