Should the Australian state of Victoria make abortion care free?

Abortion is legal in Victoria up to 24 weeks gestation, but patients still pay high out-of-pocket fees exceeding $1,000 for consultations, ultrasounds, and medication. A major health proposal aims to make abortion care completely free in public clinics for terminations up to 16 weeks.

Supporters argue that free care up to 16 weeks removes financial barriers and ensures equal healthcare access. Opponents oppose taxpayer funding on moral or budget grounds, or prefer spending public money on other health services.
